You're booking one ticket that includes the palace entry (skip the queue), a 45-minute guided introduction across the first three courtyards, an audio-guide app for the self-paced hours, and optional Harem access.
What it isn't: a full-day bus tour, a 12-stop guided march, a generic audio-only ticket, or a resold official admission without any actual service. We own the guide roster; we own the slot at Gate 1.
Our Topkapı roster is four guides. All four hold the Ministry of Tourism license. Two of them — Leyla (pictured) and Aslı — did their Master's thesis at Boğaziçi on Ottoman material culture. Can is the palace specialist — 11 years of leading tours here.
None of them memorized a script. Ask about the tulip era, the janissary revolts, the cost of emerald per gram in 1580. They'll answer.
The biggest source of confusion at Topkapı is arrival. Here's exactly what happens.
The Imperial Gate, outside the palace walls. Our host wears a beige scarf and holds a small "Topkapı — Guided Entry" sign.
Show your digital QR. Passport or ID number matching the booking. Takes ~90 seconds per person.
Group walks together through the operator gate — not the public ticket office. You've bypassed the 40-minute peak line.
Your guide begins there. Hagia Irene on your right, the fountain ahead. The introduction officially starts.
Third Court, Gate of Felicity, 20 steps in. Guide says goodbye, audio app is live. You're on your own from here.
Outdoors, mostly. The guide is giving you context, not a room-by-room commentary. Indoor rooms (Treasury, Sacred Relics, Harem) are always self-paced.
The "Janissary Courtyard" — the only part of the palace commoners historically could enter. Hagia Irene in the corner.
The first ceremonial threshold. Only the sultan could ride through on horseback; everyone else dismounted.
The Imperial Council chamber where ministers met four days a week under the Ottoman's "Tower of Justice." Guide points out the grille.
The entrance to the sultan's private domain. Throne ceremonies happened right here.
Audience Chamber on your right, Library ahead, Treasury on your left. Guide leaves you here with a printed map.
Your entry ticket doesn't have a timed exit. Once you're inside, you're inside until the palace closes — 18:00 in summer, 17:00 in winter. The Baghdad Kiosk terrace and its tea are the customary wind-down.
QR codes outside each of 22 rooms. Scan once, chapter begins. No need to remember "am I in room 14 or 16."
Re-recorded 2024. 4-minute average per chapter. Pause, rewind, skip. Headphones provided at Gate 1 if you forget yours.
App is 78 MB once downloaded. Works offline for the whole visit. Stays on your phone for 7 days in case you come back.
The Harem is a separate ticket at the palace, at official rate, and always has been. Here's what the Harem-inclusive combo changes — and what it doesn't.
Your guide's intro includes a 10-minute orientation at the Harem entrance. You enter on your own ticket after. Expect ~90 minutes inside — the Queen Mother's apartments, Imperial Hall, the Sultan's private quarters.
Recommended if you're a first-time visitorYou see everything else — courtyards, Treasury, Sacred Relics, Kitchens, Baghdad Kiosk. No guilt: ~30% of our visitors skip the Harem and call the day complete. The Harem is additive, not foundational.
Fine if you're short on timeYes — if availability allows. Our host at Gate 1 can upgrade you on arrival if there's a slot, at the palace's walk-up rate. Pre-booking the Harem combo locks in your price and confirms availability.
Pre-booking is always smarterNo — for the first 45 minutes across the courtyards. After the Third Court hand-off, you're on your own with the audio guide. This is intentional: visitors who wanted a full-day guided tour consistently felt rushed through the rooms.
Technically yes — but you'd lose the skip-queue benefit and pay the same price as the standalone admission. Our product is priced as a bundle. If the intro isn't valuable to you, buy the official €30 ticket directly.
The courtyards and Treasury are accessible on the guided portion — ramps and flat cobbles. The Harem and Kitchens have limited accessibility (steps at thresholds). Flag it at checkout and our host routes you via the accessible entrance; we never charge extra.
No — a passport number matching your booking is enough. We don't physically inspect passports. The number is for the palace's official guest register, which is legally required.
Full refund up to 24h before. Tuesday closures & holiday closures count as refunds, not credits.
All four guides on our roster carry the Ministry of Tourism license. No freelancers off Google.
Same person answering your questions before, during, after. 09:00–23:00, reply in 15 min.
On Trustpilot, not a curated site. Average rounded honestly from raw score.
Two slots daily, 09:00 and 14:00. Every day except Tuesday.
